“Strategy To Increase
Credibility Of Indian Medical Device Companies”
The Indian healthcare sector in the field of
medical devices consists of global multinational
companies who market their products in India as
well as domestic device companies who have
focused on developing and marketing cost
effective device solutions. As with every other
sphere of economic activity, there appears to be
a fascination amongst both prescribers and
patients with anything that comes from the
“Western” world with such products generally
termed as “Imported”. These tendencies usually
put “Western” origin products on a pedestal
higher than Indian ones and both prescribers and
patients demonstrate a willingness to pay higher
prices for Western origin or “Imported”
products. While this is generally the case,
every sector of medical devices has a few
exceptional domestic companies who have managed
to buck this trend and establish themselves as a
strong and recognized national brand in the
country. |

“Platinum Catalyzed Silicone Chemistry Solutions for
Biomedical and Healthcare Use”
Since
their first use in medical device design in the 1950s,
silicones have been important biomaterials utilized in
many biomedical and healthcare applications due to
their unique physical properties and proven
biocompatibility. The network formation in one type of
silicone expertly suited for use in the body relies
upon a chemical cross linking reaction that employs a
platinum catalyst. This cure chemistry can be
incorporated into silicone formulations which include
elastomers, gels, adhesives, dispersions, marking inks
and even foams, and allows for increased control over
mechanical properties compared to other types of cure
mechanisms. Platinum cured silicones can be formulated
to cure at room temperature or with heat, expanding
feasibility with different processing parameters such
as work time. Additionally, they produce no byproducts
during cure and so undergo minimal shrinkage. For
their stability during cure and versatility, platinum
cure silicones are the most commonly utilized
silicones in the medical field. This presentation will
focus on the science behind platinum silicone
chemistry in conjunction with the versatility of
silicone formulation and use and why this proven
biomaterial has become a vital solution for the
medical device arena. |
