Road map for Utilising Brains of India for Medical device innovation, Development

Indian brain is best in the world. Unfortunately brain power is not directed to right direction. To utilise this power one needs to disseminate information about the inventions made and capabilities. Communication between three pillars Inventor, user & manufacturer required. Inventors should approach the world with businessman attitude.

Compatibility of Thermoplastic Polyurethanes with Drugs for IV Sets

Compatibility between medications and intravascular (IV) administration sets is important for assuring predictable delivery of the drug dose, safety and efficacy. Potential interactions include sorption, permeation of the drug into the administration set, leaching of the set material components into the drug solution. The use of thermoplastic polyurethanes (TPU) for IV sets has seen a recent increase. A comprehensive evaluation of the in vitro compatibility of IV sets of thermoplastic polyurethanes with an array of drugs with different properties, indicated that TPU sets did not affect the pH, impurity and particulates of the drug products tested, being similar or better to compared to TPE and PVC IV sets.

PLASMAJET - A NOVEL DEVICE FOR BIOMEDICAL APPLICATIONS

Plasma the fourth state of matter after solid, liquid and gas, comprises of ions, electrons, unionized gas atoms/molecules. Depending on the nature of plasma generation either the plasma will have low heat content but high in chemical reactivity (commonly known as cold plasma and used for surface modification) or will have high heat content (commonly known as hot plasma and used for bulk material modification, waste disposal). At FCIPT division of IPR, work on both cold and hot plasmas is being undertaken for various applications for societal benefit. Plasmajet is a device, which produces a cold plasma at atmospheric pressure and is extremely useful for biomedical applications.

An atmospheric pressure plasmajet is developed with argon and oxygen as plasma forming gases, and then it is directed to the patient’s skin having fungal infection (Tinea Cruris). The initial results indicate that patients are getting cured in 3 to 4 sittings where each sitting ~ 15 minutes. Further studies on the mechanism of fungal infection with plasma and micro-biological tests are going on. This work is done in collaboration with IIEST, Howrah and IPGMER, Kolkata. Now plasmajet is planned to be put on some cancer cells to test its performance in collaboration in BSG-BARC. The talk will highlight development of the plasmajet at FCIPT and also mention some other technologies which may benefit the biomedical community.

Workshop On “Technology Driven Transactions “with Focus On Medical Devices Pharmaceuticals & Healthcare Sector Investments.

When one negotiates a license of technology, they need to know what royalty rate and other financial terms they should seek (as a licensor) or pay (as a licensee) and the Allied Clauses in the Legal Agreement whether a Technical Collaboration or a Joint Venture.

This intense skills development workshop will show how to make that determination. It will show the methodologies one should employ, and those that one should not. It will show the sources of information that one need to make that determination and it will teach the skills that one need to hone to be able to reliably make that determination.
