Our journey of successful and consistent 30 years’ service to the Indian Medical Devices, Pharmaceuticals and Plastics Sectors has been possible because of generous support from all the stakeholders. We are grateful to numerous Industry leaders and professionals for their kind support, continued co-operation and guidance. Also by

Speaking in a recently organised post-budget webinar on ““Unleashing the Potential: Ease of Living Using Technology” , Hon. Prime Minister Narendrabhai Modi urged the Medical Devices health sector to innovate and upgrade manufacturing through the use of technology to reduce India’s dependence on imports.

While there are already number of Academic and Research Organizations which have been contributing very significantly towards Hon. Prime Minister’s mission, there is need for creating awareness about their activities and achievements.

 

One such prominent Institution is Sree Chitra Tirunal Institute for Medical Sciences and Technology (SCTIMST) located in Thiruvanthapuram (Trivandrum ). SCTIMST is an Institution of National Importance under the Department of Science and Technology, Govt. of India. The institute has the status of a university and offers excellent research and training facilities. Under their biomedical technology wing, the Institute focuses on indigenous development of technologies for biomedical devices and materials . The institute has excellent facilities and teams of professionals dedicated to the development of innovative biomedical devices and products, evaluation of medical devices to global specifications, training in novel medical specialties and research in medical and public health areas of social relevance. The Institute is a Technical Research Centre for Biomedical devices and has a medical devices incubator (TIMed).

 

An introductory article by Ms Sandhya C G, Scientist F , SCTIMST gives elaborate information about the “Testing and Biological Evaluation of Medical Devices & Biomaterials" services being provided by the Institute.

 

As also introduced by Mr S. Balram, CEO, SCTIMST – TIMed, The mandate of TIMed is to encourage innovation and entrepreneurship in medical technologies through technology business incubation support to innovators, start-ups and industry. TIMed provides much needed mentorship, funding, networking opportunities, clinical and investor connects as well as basic facilities and services that a Medtech or healthcare start up requires.

 

Selecting right polymeric raw materials for Medical Devices is crucial for safety and to accomplish application requirements. Two different articles introduce materials like Thermoplastic Elastomers, PVC Compounds & Plasticizers.

 

Under the column on Global Markets , Mr Amit Dave has given an overview on “ Marketing Strategies By The Indian Medical Device Exporters” based on a research study.
