This is the fifth
publication of Indian Innovators Association. The
publication excludes innovations in Software,
ECommerce, Financial Innovations, juggad etc and
targets physical, embodied, systematic innovation, for
this compilation. They received nearly 1000
nominations, directly or indirectly. Hundred
innovations are selected from out of the sourced
documents. For selection, equal weight is given to
‘innovator profile’ and ‘innovation merit’. |

As can be expected, many innovators are practicing
medical professionals and others in bio-technology have
strong linkages with research institutions.

“Studies on India present a mixed picture of uniqueness
and successes of Indian innovation efforts, as well as
deep concerns. Earlier, Technology denials, catching up
with import substitution, Impact of TRIPs were analyzed
in detail and now there are scattered studies on impact
of Venture Capital, emergence of Unicorns, Startup boom
etc. There is need for more studies to develop deeper
historical and contextual understanding of
innovation-related institution-building in the Indian
context.
This publication shares several cases of
industry-academia linkages, technology spill over
startups and technology licensing opportunities.

“True innovators, whether companies or individuals,
are willing to put in the resources and efforts for the
“small present evil”, that may cost lots in terms of
money and time, for some future uncertain benefit. While
success, which is dependent on many factors including
luck, is not guaranteed, innovators don't know any other
way to live. They have to create something that will
make their lives worthwhile. Innovation is almost like
an addiction, a healthy one, that can help us create
great solutions to world's biggest problems. R&D, the
key to innovation, is almost built into the DNA of a
person or company, and either propels them to extreme
heights or can destroy them. While failure is at the
level of individuals and corporations, as a whole the
society benefits tremendously from innovation, we should
learn to celebrate failure, esp of the experiments, if
we want to succeed as a nation.”
