Importance Of Medical Device Parks And Its Contribution To
MeDTech Industry Growth
Easy access to standard testing and infrastructure
facilities through creation of world class Common
Infrastructure Facilities for increased competitiveness
will result into significant reduction of the cost of
production of medical devices leading to better
availability and affordability of medical devices in the
domestic
market. The objective for the Medical Device Parks is
also to exploit the benefits arising due to optimization
of resources and economies of scale.
Medical Device Parks In India
One of the leading and the only fully functional medical
devices park is at Andhra Pradesh – Andhra Pradesh Med
Tech Zone (AMTZ). The various common facilities
created in the park include : Centre for 3D Printing,
prototyping and rapid tooling facility, Gamma irradiation
facility, Electromagnetic compatibility (EMC) and
electromagnetic interference (EMI) Electrical Safety
Training (EST), Biomaterial testing facility, X-ray and CT
Scan tube manufacturing, etc. It has also set up Kalam
Institute of Health Technology (KIHT) for R&D, technology
transfer, market intelligence and innovation and market
access, Medi Valley Atal Incubation Centre, ECRI
Institute, Bio Valley Incubation Council, etc. Some more
facilities include : moulding, sterilization and toxicity
testing, radiation, etc.
It has a warehouse facility
and plans to have other facilities import – export
promotion body, regulatory office, exhibition etc.
Detailed report on AMTZ and
important common services provided by AMTZ is highlighted
in this issue of magazine.
This issue also highlights
Medical Device Parks at various stages of implementation /
consideration are : Telangana , Tamil Nadu , Uttar Pradesh
, Kerala , Madhya Pradesh , Himachal Pradesh etc.
Overview of Medical
Devices Parks Scheme
1. Objective of the
Scheme.
• Creation of world class Infrastructure Facilities (CIF)
to make Indian medical devices industry a global leader
• To help industry meet standards of environment at
reduced cost
• To exploit benefits arising out of optimization of
resources and economies of scale
2. Scope of the Scheme
• Financial outlay is Rs. 400 crore for 04 parks (max Rs.
100 crore each park)
• Duration of the Scheme – FY 2020-21 to FY 2024-25
• Scheme will be implemented by a State Implementation
Agency (SIA)
• Assistance is in the form of grant-in-aid will be 70% of
project cost of CIF. For Hilly/North Eastern States – it
is 90%
3. Role of State Government (Proposer)
• Minimum requirement of land 150 acre (for Hilly state –
100 acre)
• States have offered competitive rates of land and
utilities for the parks such as:
• Land lease charges
• Power
• Water
• Warehouse charges
• Park Maintenance charges
• Single window clearance & promotion of parks at National
& International level
